THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a steep rise in the number of fever patients in the state with the strengthening of monsoons. The number of H1N1 and dengue cases is increasing significantly. As per the authorities, the daily number of fever patients has crossed eleven thousand. Officials estimate that the number of daily flu patients is likely to rise to 20,000 within three weeks. As fever started spreading, the special action plan of the health department will start from tomorrow.
Dengue cases are rising alarmingly. 1075 dengue cases have been reported in ten days. 217 H1N1 cases and 127 rat fever cases were reported. 26 people died this month due to dengue, rat fever and H1N1.
Three times more H1N1 cases were reported in June than last month. More dengue fever cases were reported in Ernakulam. Along with this, the number of dengue patients is increasing significantly in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta and Thrissur.
It is estimated that the reason for the outbreak of fever is due to the formation of waterlogging after the heavy rains, inefficiency of pre-monsoon sanitation, use of sewage water etc. The situation is that if one person in the family gets sick, everyone else gets sick. The health department has intensified field surveys to prevent transmission of the disease from one person to another. The department of health has warned not to ignore the symptoms and never self-medicate.
