THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A clash broke out in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Thursday morning between the CPM and BJP councillors. The police had to intervene to control the fight. The CPM councillors tried to stop mayor V V Rajesh from entering his office. The scuffle was in the name of the oath taking controversy. The clash intensified when the BJP councillors tried to protect the mayor.

Kattayikonam councillor Sindhu sustained injuries in the fight. She has been shifted to the hospital. CPM councillors are shouting slogans seeking the resignation of the mayor. CPM activists from various places have reached there.

The court had invalidated the oath taken by BJP councilors of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. The court invalidated for taking oath in the name of their favorite deities and martyrs. Soon they took oath in the name of God within hours. The court had directed the 20 to take the oath again. However, the LDF and UDF came to the fore, alleging that the oath was taken in the absence of opposition councilors and that the oath was taken secretly. There were allegations that procedures were not followed.
