KOZHIKODE: The body of Arjun (30) who died in a landslide in Shirur, Karnataka, was cremated at his family home in Kannadikkal, Kozhikode. The funeral, held with Hindu rites, saw Arjun’s brother Abhijith lighting the pyre in a heartfelt farewell. Family members, locals and political leaders, including Minister K B Ganesh Kumar, were present to pay their last respects.
Thousands gathered at Arjun’s residence to honor his memory, as his body was placed for public viewing before the cremation. The ambulance carrying his remains entered Kozhikode district at around 6:30 AM, where Minister A K Saseendran, Kozhikode District Collector and other officials received the body on behalf of the Kerala state government.
Arjun had left for Karnataka with a travel permit issued by his hometown. In a show of solidarity, the Karnataka government has announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to his family, with Karwar MLA Satish Krishna Sail set to hand over the aid to Arjun’s mother. MLA Sail is expected to return only after the funeral ceremonies conclude.
Among Arjun’s personal belongings found in the cabin of his lorry were his son’s toy truck, his watch, shoes, mobile phone, a pressure cooker, steel utensils, documents and bags. These were loaded into the ambulance alongside his body yesterday evening.
