THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Senior leader M M Hassan may be given the temporary charge of KPCC chief. The party's decision comes in the wake of Sunny Joseph contesting the assembly elections. KPCC general secretary P M Niyas will be given the temporary charge of the election war room. Hassan was given the temporary charge when the then president K Sudhakaran contested the last Lok Sabha elections.

As the campaign heats up, there was a lot of discussion in the Congress about who should be given the temporary charge of the KPCC president. In the initial phase, the names of MPs Kodikunnil Suresh, Anto Antony, Benny Behanan and Shafi Parambil were actively considered. However, the feeling was strong in the party that someone who could work full-time at the KPCC headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram should take over the post of president.

With this, a decision was taken to give the temporary charge to senior leader M M Hassan. The announcement will be made once the official approval of AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge is received. The charge of the 'war room' of the election campaigns has been given to K C Venugopal's trusted P M Niyas. The coordination of the visits of star campaigners, the tours of state leaders, etc. will now be done under the leadership of Niyas. AICC general secretary Deepa Das Munshi, who is in charge of Kerala, will directly supervise the activities of the war room.
