KASARGOD: The Kerala Prisons Department has granted mass parole to all the convicts in the Periya twin murder case. Parole has been granted to first accused Peethambaran, fourth accused Anil, fifth accused Gijin, seventh accused Ashwin, and fifteenth accused Surendran. The parole was reportedly approved in a hurry before the LDF government stepped down from power. All the convicts have been granted 20 days of parole and are currently in Kasaragod district.

Youth Congress workers Kripesh and Sarath Lal were brutally murdered at Kallyod in Periya, Kasaragod, on February 17, 2019. CPM workers who were found guilty in the case were sentenced to double life imprisonment by a CBI special court. The families of Kripesh and Sarath Lal, along with Congress leaders, have strongly protested against the repeated granting of parole to the convicts.

The victims’ families alleged that the LDF government denied them justice and showed special interest in protecting convicted criminals. The parole granted to the accused in the case had triggered major political controversies earlier as well. The families are now preparing to approach the court legally against the repeated granting of parole to the convicts.
