ALUVA: Following the intensification of the protest, police have released the classmates of Mofiya Parveen, a law student who committed suicide. 17 students, who were taken to custody, have been released. They were arrested when they arrived at the SP office to lodge a complaint.
The students had initially marched to the SP office. Soon, the police blocked them after they raised anti-police slogans. Later, the students went to the SP's office and lodged a complaint seeking action regarding Mofiya's death.
The students were later taken into custody for allegedly organising a sit-in protest inside the office. Though the students were initially taken to the AR camp, they were later shifted to the Edathala station. The police decided to release the students following a widespread protest against the arrest. The students alleged that they were taken into custody without provocation and treated like criminals. They also said that they were threatened by the police.
