KOZHIKODE: A nine-year-old boy undergoing treatment at the medical college hospital has been confirmed with amoebic encephalitis. The boy is a native of Kottoor. The boy had bathed in the canal with his friends three days ago. It is believed that he may have contracted the disease from here.

Amoebic encephalitis has been confirmed again in Kozhikode after a few days. The boy was admitted to the hospital after experiencing headache and high fever. When the fever did not subside, he was taken to Kozhikode Medical College for examination. Doctors said that the child's health condition is satisfactory.

The health department has intensified its investigation to confirm whether the disease was contracted from the water in the canal. A sample of the water from the Kakkodi branch canal where the boy bathed has been collected. Only when the test results come, the source be clarified.
