THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: SP Yathish Chandra, who went on deputation to the Karnataka cadre in 2021, has returned to Kerala. officer's controversial confrontation with a Union Minister and his iron fist approach has made quite a reputation in the state. He has been appointed here is as Information, Communication and Technology SP. He was the Deputy Commissioner of Bengaluru City Police.

Controversy erupted after he stopped and engaged in an argument with Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan, who was about to go to Pampa in a private vehicle to visit Sabarimala. He was also accused of showing a lack of respect to Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he arrived in Thrissur. There was a lot of controversy when Yathish Chandra beat up the protesters in Angamaly and Puthuvyppin and punished the people in Kannur during the Covid period.

During his tenure as Aluva Rural SP, in March 2015, he was involved in a controversy when he lathi-charged protesters in a strike of the Left Front in Angamaly.

Later, he took up the Prime Minister's fitness challenge and went viral on social media. He is a native of Davangere, Karnataka. After completing his engineering degree, Yathish joined IPS while holding a senior position at Motorola. His wife is Shyamala Sarang, a software engineer.
