KOCHI: The High Court on Thursday asked whether the provision on the government order that the student must obtain written permission to go out of the Govt Medical College hostels after 9.30 pm is practical. It also questioned the provision that students should present the request from parents in case of an emergency after 9.30 pm. Justice Devan Ramachandran directed the government to convey its position on amending these provisions within ten days.

The High Court is considering petitions filed by female students of Kozhikode Govt Medical College against the government's order prohibiting them from leaving the hostels of Govt Medical Colleges at night. The petitioners questioned the order prohibiting students from leaving the hostel after 9:30 pm. However, the government later amended the order on the direction of the High Court. The High Court has now asked whether the conditions mentioned in this order are practical. The High Court said that it is good to have a public discussion on this issue.
