THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) says that despite the onset of summer rains, the temperature in the state will continue to be around 40 degrees Celsius in April. The temperature reached 40 degrees in March due to a lack of rain. The temperature may further increase by two to three degrees till April 20. As per IMD, summer rains will intensify after April 20 and the temperature will drop to 32 degrees from May.
The state received 29.4 mm of summer rain in March, against the expected range of 32.4 mm. Along with global warming, emissions of greenhouse gases and climate change have caused warming. The humidity is also high. This is the reason why it feels very hot as soon as the summer rains subside. Coastal areas are more humid. There is currently no chance of sunstroke. But health experts estimate that it can cause uneasiness and fatigue.
