State school sports meet to kickstart from October 17

THRISSUR: The synthetic track at Kunnamkulam Vocational Higher Secondary School will be effective for the first time on Tuesday. More than 2680 athletes will participate in the state school sports meet and the authorities have already rolled out a new synthetic track for the event. The first whistle will blow on Tuesday with the start of junior girls' 3000 m. The event is scheduled at morning 7 am. The final round of 21 events will also take place on Tuesday.

The Kasaragod team, which arrived early on Monday morning, was received at Bethany School with sweets and garlands. Minister R. Bindu handed over the game torch to I M Vijayan at Thekkinkadu Maidan. In the evening, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, A C Moideen, received the athletes at the ground in Kunnamkulam.

Director of Public Education S Shanavas will hoist the flag at 9 am on Tuesday. After inaugurating the sports festival at 3:30 pm, Minister V. Sivankutty will light the lamp. Last year Palakkad district was the champions with 32 golds.
