THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has started a field survey to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for metro rail here. The survey was started in Pallipuram and Pallichal. Laser survey will be done at 41 km. DMRC has been tasked by Kochi Metro Limited to prepare the DPR within three months. A comprehensive transport plan and parallel analysis report will also be prepared.

The DPR will be submitted to the government in January. DPR was prepared in 2018 but was not sent for central approval. National highway development, bypass etc. will be considered for the new alignment. Light Metro and Metro Light projects were recommended but it was agreed that Medium Metro should be the one to be considered.

It is recommended that the project be implemented from Pallipuram to Pallichal in the first phase and from Pallichal to Neyyatinkara in the second phase. It is also recommended to extend the first phase till Atingal for future purpose. Two corridors are recommended from Pallipuram to Pallichal via Karamana and Nemam and from Kazhakoottam to Killipalam via Eenchakkal. In future, Pallipuram-Mangalapuram (3.7km) and Eenchaikkal-Vizhinjam (14.7km) routes are also recommended.
