THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Film actor Devan has been appointed as the vice president of BJP's Kerala unit. This was announced by state President K Surendran released through a Facebook post.
Devan, who formed a party under the name 'Navakerala People's Party', eventually merged with the BJP. He contested in two elections earlier but tasted defeat in both.
It was earlier announced that he would contest the 2021 assembly elections without outside support. The merger was at the end of the Vijaya Yatra led by K Surendran. Union Home Minister Amit Shah accepted Devan and his party into the BJP. At that time, Devan said that the Navakerala People's Party is his daughter whom he has raised for 17 years.
During the merger of the party with the BJP, Devan said he bid goodbye to Congress- his parent party, when he found out why Kerala remained underdeveloped and after that he formed the Navakerala People's Party in 2004.
