NEW DELHI: Actress and model Poonam Pandey and her husband Sam Bombay have been slapped with a defamation case to the tune of Rs 100 crores for a fake death stunt earlier this month. According to the lawsuit filed by an individual named Faizan Ansari, the news of Poonam's death due to cervical cancer has caused grief to many fans and trivialized a deadly disease like cancer.
The fake news that Poonam died of cancer came out on February 2 and a post stating the same was shared on her official Instagram handle. The post stated that Poonam had been undergoing treatment for cervical cancer for a long time. At the same time, reports were claiming that her 'death' was suspicious.
On the very next, Poonam appeared on social media with a post that she is not dead. The actor explained that the death news was faked to create awareness about the deadly disease called cervical cancer. “I am alive. I didn't die of cervical cancer. Unfortunately, I can't say that about those hundreds and thousands of women who have lost their lives because of cervical cancer.", she said.
Poonam played the lead role in the 2013 Bollywood film Nasha. She appeared half-naked in the poster of the film, which caused huge outbursts.
