Remembering Mani: Legacy that shines forever

CHALAKUDY: Eight years have passed since the untimely death of Kalabhavan Mani, the actor, who left an indelible mark on Malayali minds with the geniality of his hometown Chalakudy.On Wednesday, the people of Chalakudy will conduct various special programs in memory of Mani, who always worshipped his hometown more than anything in his life.

Mani passed away on March 6, 2016, after a small bout with liver-related issues. Kunnesseri Raman's son Mani thrived not just in regional cinema but also proved his mettle across the South Indian film industry. It was only late after his death that the Tamil audiences recognized Mani’s inimitable and exceptional talent which was put onto the screen in Gemini, Aaaru, Anniyan, Enthiran, Vel and Papanasam.

Unlike many actors of his time, Mani ambled across the movie industry playing comedy roles, protagonist and eerie antagonist roles. He would do all this in a canter, which was something only a few managed to pull off. Mani’s negative role infused with his comic antics was put to display in the Tamil movie Gemini which awed the audiences and made him a popular name across Tamil Nadu.

Despite conquering the pinnacle of acting, Kalabhavan Mani belittled his health and lavishly lived his life to the fullest in all gala which resulted in his untimely death. The actor, singer and the people's person will forever remain a pride of Malayalis across the world.
