Speaking on the IMDB original series 'On the Scene', Manjummel Boys director Chidambaram said he is open to remakes and reinterpretations. "Friendship is a universal thing, and all over the world there are kids who do things like this and get away with it. Manjummel Boys is a story based on a true incident. I am not sure if the film would have been as well received as it is now if it had been purely fictional," he said.
"The shoot was at a very high altitude with cold climate. The time allotted to us for shooting was from 5 am to 9 am. The team members will get up early in the morning and reach the caves with the equipment. It is a very dangerous place. There were many potholes here and there. If you don't know the right way, you'll definitely end up in danger. We used to get wet early in the morning in the cold weather. We should stop the shooting a return before the arrival of tourists and members of the public. So the challenges were many," he added.
"The monkey skull shown in the movie is the one I got when I went to Guna Cave. It was almost like a human skull. Kamal sir also got a monkey skull from Guna cave. He used the same skull in 'Hey Ram'. This movie is based on a true incident that happened in 2006. The film tells the story of the friendship of a group of young people from a place called Manjummel near Kochi, who go on an excursion to Kodaikanal," he added.
