Malayalee youths seeking jobs in Thailand kidnapped by armed group and held hostage

BANGKOK: A complaint has been filed stating that Malayali youths who reached abroad in search of jobs were kidnapped and held hostages. The armed group kidnapped natives of Vallikkappatta in Malappuram, who reached Thailand from Abu Dhabi and are being held hostage. Their relatives got information that the youths are presently in custody of online fraud groups in Myanmar.


Shuhaib and Safeer are being held hostages. They reached Dubai in a visiting visa on March 27. In the meanwhile, they came to know about a job vacancy in a company in Thailand and applied for it. After the online interview, they got an offer letter along with flight tickets to Thailand.


The two reached Suvarnabhumi Airport in Thailand on May 22. Their relatives said they were received by the agent and taken to an unknown center under the control of the armed group. Youths contacted their families and informed about it.

It is heard that they have been assigned to commit crimes including hacking of bank accounts. Relatives have lodged a complaint with the ministry of external affairs. Locals have formed an action council to coordinate efforts for the release of the youths. It is said that many youths including Malayalees, are being trapped in Thailand by agents. Many including Indians, arrive in Thailand seeking jobs.
