THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain is likely to lash the state today. The central meteorological department said that there is a possibility of light rain at isolated places in Kottayam and Ernakulam in the next three hours.
Yellow alert has been declared in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. A chance of isolated heavy rain has been predicted. Heavy rain refers to rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.
The meteorological department has announced that the monsoon will be active in the entire state from tomorrow. At present only some districts are affected by monsoon. North Kerala is more influenced by monsoons than south Kerala. Yellow alert has been announced in Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod on Saturday and Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod on Sunday. Strong winds and bad weather conditions are likely over Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts from today to Monday with a speed of 35 to 45 kmph and at some occasions up to 55 kmph. Therefore, the central meteorological department has informed that it is not advisable to go fishing on these days.
Kallakadal Phenomenon
Tthe National Center for Oceanography and Oceanography (INCOIS) has said that there is a possibility of rough seas and high waves along the Kerala coast and south Tamil Nadu coast till 11.30 tonight. Fishermen and coastal residents in these areas should exercise caution.
People should stay away from danger areas as advised by the authorities as the rough seas are likely to intensify. Keep fishing vessels safely moored in the harbor. Keeping a safe distance between boats can avoid the possibility of collision. Officials also warned that trips to the beach and recreation in the sea should be completely avoided.
