Assaulted ASI and bail controversy; Bus conductor Ansar arrested yet again

KOCHI: A private bus conductor who created unrest by blocking traffic and threatening a car driver in Kaloor Deshabhimani Junction was arrested again. There was criticism that the North Police had granted him bail despite assaulting and injuring an ASI. Kannur native Muhammed Ansar (27), who lives in Palluruthy, was arrested from a lodge in Ernakulam. The court remanded him.

Ansar is an employee of Alankar Bus, which operates on the Kakkanad-Fort Kochi route. Last Month, while on duty, Ansar stopped a car at Kaloor Deshabhimani Junction, irked by the honking and threatened the driver by shouting expletives. Ansar also hit the bonnet of the car and stayed in the area, blocking traffic and lighting a cigarette. When the bus reached Kacheripady on Saturday afternoon, ASI P.J. Sunil and CPO Ajilesh of the North Station boarded and asked Ansar to appear at the station.

Ansar, who turned violent at this, started slapping the ASI. He was later subdued and taken into custody by force and released on bail. On Monday, a non-bailable section was also filed for attacking a government official and causing injury. Thrikkakara police, after not registering a case against Ansar for the incident that happened on August 22nd, finally gave up and registered a case on Monday.
