'Criminal in police uniform'; Former DGP T P Senkumar responds to court verdict against Thachankary

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former Police Chief T P Senkumar welcomed the court verdict sentencing former DGP Tomin J Thachankary to four years in prison in a disproportionate assets case. Senkumar noted on Facebook that "a thief may evade capture for a long time, but will eventually get caught." He also praised Bobby Kuruvila, who pursued the legal battle for 31 years.

Reacting to the verdict against Tomin Thachankary, Senkumar said it was a highly significant moment. He characterised Thachankary as a criminal in police uniform, noting that his conduct during his service was deeply unsettling. Just before Senkumar assumed the role of State Police Chief, Thachankary was appointed as the ADGP in charge of Headquarters, following a Supreme Court order. Subsequently, cases were initiated against Senkumar.

Senkumar said that the cases arose from personal motives.

“For those of us who lived through that period, today's verdict holds great significance. This ruling serves as a reminder that holding a position of power does not place anyone above the law, and that actions taken under the cover of official office will ultimately be subject to legal scrutiny," said Senkumar.
