THRISSUR: Thrissur MP and Union Minister of State Suresh Gopi had announced Rs 411 crore worth of development projects for Thrissur railway station last day. The project is to make the railway station a part of Amrit stations and rebuild the terminal to international standards foreseeing 25 years of future development. However, it is now being argued that the local MP is not entitled to any credit for this project.
Development projects at Thrissur railway station were inaugurated six months ago by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through a video conference. The Prime Minister had inaugurated the international standard reconstruction of Thrissur Railway Station and Guruvayur Amrit Station on February 26. The renovation of Thrissur and Guruvayur stations was inaugurated during the tenure of TN Prathapan as an MP including it in the project of renovating various railway stations in the country.
In 2020, the then Thrissur MP TN Prathapan had met with the Railway Board officials and asked them to announce a plan for the comprehensive development of the Thrissur Railway Station. TN Prathapan had released the details of the airport-style renovation project of Thrissur railway station in a review meeting called later. 5.11 crore has been sanctioned for the renovation of the Guruvayur Amrit Station project.
