BENGALURU: The accused in the case of chopping a woman into pieces and storing her in a fridge in an apartment in the city will be arrested soon, police said. Mahalakshmi (29), a native of Bihar who had been living in Bengaluru city for the past 20 years, was brutally murdered. It is learned that the police have reached the final stage of arresting the accused. Unconfirmed information is that a native of West Bengal is behind the murder.
City Police Commissioner B Dayanand said more details about the accused cannot be disclosed at the moment. The body of the woman was found in an apartment in Vyalikaval. The murder came to light after a strong smell emanated from the apartment. Neighbours had noticed the foul smell from the last few days. The locals initially thought that since there was garbage in the area, it would be from that.
However, when the neighbours realised that a foul smell was emanating from the apartment, they informed the owner of the building. The owner of the building who was living on the ground floor of the same building, informed Mahalakshmi's mother and sister, who live nearby. The remains of the body were found inside the fridge after an inspection was conducted in the apartment in their presence.
Earlier, Mahalakshmi was staying in another flat with her husband and four-year-old daughter. Mahalakshmi moved into the new apartment after she separated from her husband. She lived here alone. The neighbours were not close to Mahalakshmi, who worked at a mall in the city. She used to go to work on a two-wheeler in the morning and return to the flat around 10.30 pm.
