THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Just hours after MLA Anvar’s scoffing remarks, MLA K T Jaleel hit back out at the Nilambur MLA in the same coin.

Jaleel:

“Mr P V Anvar. I do not need to depend on anybody and know pretty well how to stand on my own feet. During the 2006 elections, Manjalamkuzhi Ali, the rich bizman, contested in Mankada, my neighbouring constituency. I never begged him to donate even a ‘wall poster’ for my campaign.

In 2016, Abdurahiman and Anvar contested from Ponnani. In support, I gave speeches for hours in Ponnani but never cared to ask for any financial help. Not even my travel expenses. I have not found shelter in the abode provided by big business magnates in Kerala. Jaleel doesn’t need that.

For someone who has written off family inheritance, and not contesting any more elections, what is the need to fear? Why should someone like that depend on some other?

Even during my time in the Muslim league, I haven’t feared the mighty P K Kunhalikutty. I consider Pinarayi Vijayan a father figure. I will keep that respect until my death. It is not for fear but love. Four big Central Investigative Agencies have hunted me down but nothing happened.

I fear only Allah and my parents. Wrongdoers will have to fear, but not me.

Anvar, I am behind you in terms of wealth, but not on any other terms. If you are polite to me, I will be the same. If you are trying other ways, then…. “

Anvar’s earlier statement:

“I am standing with people, while Jaleel is standing on some other's feet. None of them can be blamed for not being able to stand up for themselves and not being able to take up popular issues honestly and bravely. Some people have limitations when it comes to courage. Jaleel could not go beyond a limit. We should accept that.

Jaleel has said that he would not speak against CM Pinarayi Vijayan even if made to stand at gunpoint. See the quick change in Jaleel’s response from his earlier one. He might have been threatened and it is normal for people to fear for life.”
