MANGALURU: The dead body of Karnataka's prominent businessman and political family member Mumtaz Ali (52) has been found under the Kullur bridge. His luxury car was found crashed on top of the Kullur Bridge on National Highway 66 (Kochi-Panvel) around 5 am yesterday.
The police have confirmed that Mumtaz, who left home at 3 in the morning, traveled to many places in the city. The vehicle reached near the bridge at five o'clock. Soon after, the daughter lodged a complaint with the police stating that Mumtaz Ali was missing.
Mumtaz Ali's mobile phone and car keys were found on the bridge. Later, a search was conducted in Falguna River. The body was found during the search conducted by the team of diver Ishwar Malpe and NDRF. The police concluded that there is a possibility that Mumtaz Ali may have jumped from the bridge into Falguni river.
Mumtaz Ali is the brother of Janata Dal Secular (S) MLA BM Farooq and former Congress MLA Muhiuddin Bawa. Mumtaz Ali had sent a message on the family WhatsApp group early in the morning that he would not be coming back.
Meanwhile, the police have registered a case against six people in the case of embezzling money from Mumtaz Ali's KE by threatening to spread the word about his affair with a woman. The action was taken on the complaint of Mumtaz Ali's brother Hyderali.
