KOCHI: The police have filed an application in the court to get Suhail Sajeev, the main accused in the Mini Cooper accident in Nedumbassery, into custody. The police expect to get his custody within two days. The accused will then be interrogated in detail. The police have registered a case against the accused for culpable homicide.
The police will collect evidence from the accident spot and at the bars where they consumed alcohol. Suhail's blood samples have been sent for testing. Only after receiving these results will it become clear which all drugs were used. A case was registered against the others, who were in the car with Suhail, for failing to prevent him from driving under the influence of alcohol. The investigation team is also checking whether they had consumed any intoxicants.
The police’ remand report says that since the first accused, Suhail, is an affluent youth, there is a possibility that he may influence or threaten the witnesses. The report says the accident happened as Suhail drove the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. The report also states that the remand was requested to investigate whether the accused had consumed drugs.
Instead of Suhail's name, the FIR recorded him as the driver of the car KL 07 CR 1001. The address was marked as 'unknown.' It was also not mentioned that he was driving under the influence of alcohol. The accident happened at 1:45 am on Sunday and the FIR was registered at 6:59 am. The Kerala Borstal Schools Act specifies that convicted individuals between 16 and 21 should be admitted here. The jail rules state the same. However, there are allegations that there is a mystery in sending Suhail, a remand prisoner to the Borstal School.
Meanwhile, moves have started to get the accused out on bail. All four have submitted bail pleas in the Angamaly court. The bail pleas will be considered only after receiving the police report. Suhail, who drove the car, and his friends Ninav, Joel, and Ameen, have all submitted bail pleas. Their lawyers arrived at the court on Tuesday and submitted the bail pleas.
