PATHANAMTHITTA: Internal turmoil is brewing within Congress in Kerala as shunned leader and former MLA Rahul Mamkootathil signalled a return to active politics. A consensus is emerging among the AICC and KPCC leadership that Rahul should be reinstated if he secures a favourable verdict in the cases against him. Currently, Rahul is focusing on activities in Adoor, where he is mobilising KSU and Youth Congress workers.

DCC President Satheesh Kochuparambil told the media that Rahul is indeed a Congressman. Meanwhile, the Adoor Block Congress Committee has come forward with open criticism. The Block Committee aligns with KPCC General Secretary Pazhakulam Madhu, who is apprehensive about giving a clean chit to Rahul.

Rahul had intervened in a clash between the DYFI and the Youth Congress in Adoor the other day. Footage had surfaced showing SFI and DYFI activists assaulting Rahul after he questioned the beating of a KSU worker.

Meanwhile, Adoor police registered a case naming Rahul as the prime accused for allegedly assaulting SFI activists. Rahul Mamkootathil, who had resigned as the Youth Congress State President following allegations of harassment and obscene chats with women, including female journalists, was suspended by the Congress in August 2025 and subsequently expelled in December.

“I have not left Congress party; I will intervene if my colleagues are attacked." - Rahul Mamkootathil.
