'Scandalous campaign and obscene messages on phone'; Praveena's death shocks family

VENJARAMOODU: A woman took her life in pain, failing to cope with the slanderous campaign targeting her made by neighbours and relatives. Venjaramoodu Palamkonam native Praveena(34) died in the incident. The relatives alleged that the slanderous campaign from neighbours and certain relatives took a toll on Praveena, who decided to take her life to escape the humiliation.

Praveena was found hanging on the terrace of her family's house in Venjaramoodu at around 9 am on Monday. Relatives took her down and rushed to hospital but she was declared dead.

Praveena’s husband, who was working abroad couldn’t connect with her on the phone despite calling her many times on Monday morning. He then enquired with Praveena’s family. The relatives reached for her but to no avail. Later when searched the terrace, they found her hanging.

A week ago, Praveena had lodged a complaint with the Venjaramoodu police against the slanderous campaign and the obscene messages she was receiving on the phone. The complaint was against a resident of Palamkonam and another one from Ponnambi. Then, based on the complaint, the accused and the woman were called to the police station. But on the day, Praveena failed to reach the station.

Last Sunday, Praveena met with an accident near Nagarukuzhy and had her treatment at a private hospital. As part of healing, she was at her own house. Venjaramoodu CI Anoop Krishna promised a detailed investigation into the case following the complaint received from the woman’s husband.

The body now kept at the private medical college mortuary in Venjaramoodu, will be cremated today at 10 am at the family compound in Mukunoor. Praveena leaves behind her daughter Gauri Nandana.
