ACCRA: A Russian man unleashed a social media 'storm' after the world came to notice the videos of several Ghanaian women he uploaded on social media without seeking consent. It is reported that Ghana government has asked Russia for the extradition of the man involved.
The Russian media identified the man as a blogger in his thirties who recently travelled to the African nation to lure women of all ages to intimacy and then upload the video without their consent. The culprit is now being given the sobriquet "pick-up artist" by the media.
As per reports, the man used Meta glasses fitted with a camera to surreptitiously record his meetings with several women. He then uploaded the content on social media, generating massive traffic and discussions.
Sam George, Ghana's technology minister, had asked the Russian ambassador to discuss the matter. Based on a preliminary investigation, it was determined that the man had already left Ghana following the controversy. Ghana expects Russia's cooperation to ensure justice for the victims.
According to cyber rules in Ghana, the culprit could get 25 years in prison for uploading intimate moments with adults on social media without consent. It is reported that all women in his videos are being provided with counselling and mental support.
