Houthi attack off Yemen coast: Indian cargo ship sinks; crew rescued

SANA'A: An Indian-flagged cargo ship sank in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen after being hit by a projectile. The vessel, MSV Faize Noore Oliya, was attacked near Yemen's coast.

All 14 crew members on board, including 13 Indian sailors and one Yemeni national, were rescued by Yemeni security forces. They have been provided with the necessary medical assistance.

The attack took place about 13 nautical miles south of the Houthi-controlled port city of Hodeidah. According to a statement from Yemen's National Resistance Force, also known as the Republican Guards, the rescue operation was carried out jointly by the Coast Guard and naval units.

India strongly condemned the attack on the vessel. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said in a post on X that the safety of the crew remains the government's top priority. The rescued crew members have been brought to the port of Mocha.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the Indian Embassy in Riyadh is closely monitoring the situation and is in constant contact with Yemeni authorities to ensure the safety of the crew. India also expressed concern over the continuing attacks on commercial vessels in international waters and called for an immediate end to such attacks.
