Army sends troops to Bengal to help deal with Amphan aftermath

KOLKATA: The Indian Army on Saturday provided three columns to assist West Bengal authorities deal with the aftermath of Cyclone Amphan which caused great devastation in Bengal. The troops were deployed following a request made by the Bengal Home Department.

Earlier, the Home Department had called for the mobilisation of maximum strength for essential services like drinking water, sanitation and power supply. It had also sought for more manpower and equipment from the Railways and private sector in order to clear the remains of several trees and buildings that were destroyed during the heavy rain and wind.
