THRISSUR: While farmers in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are battling swarms of locusts invading their lands, the Kerala Agricultural University has warned farmers of Kerala to remain on high alert over a probable locust attack. A report regarding this has been handed over to the Agricultural Department. Meanwhile, the report also states that the locusts are not likely to reach Kerala anytime soon due to the strong low-pressure region formed on the Arabian sea and strong South-Western wind in the region.
At present, locusts have reportedly reached up to Nagpur. As per the University authorities, the bordering villages in Palakkad are likely to face locust attack once the swarm of locusts enters the southern state. The authorities have urged to intensify observation at these regions.
