Stray dog menace rises in Thiruvananthapuram, affecting daily life; Human Rights Commission seeks report

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has registered a case over a complaint that authorities have failed to take action despite a dangerous rise in the stray dog menace in the district. Commission Chairperson Justice Alexander Thomas has issued notices to the Principal Secretary of the Local Self-Government Department and the Secretary of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, seeking a report.

Daily life has become difficult in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation area, as well as in Nedumangad, Varkala and Attingal municipalities and various panchayats in the district, due to the stray dog menace. The complainant alleged that responsible officials continued to remain silent despite the number of stray dog hotspots increasing in the district.

The action was taken based on a complaint filed by social worker P. K. Raju on the basis of a newspaper report. The authorities have been directed to submit a report within one month.
