Fan melts and falls on bed, catches fire; five-month-old baby dies in tragic accident

MALAPPURAM: A five-month-old baby died after a wall fan caught fire due to a short circuit, melted and fell onto the bed where the child was sleeping. The tragic incident occurred at Kulakatteri in Thiruvali, Malappuram. The deceased has been identified as Sreebhadra, daughter of Sajeev, a native of Manjapra in Kalady, Ernakulam. The incident took place at around 4.15 pm the other day.

Sajeev and his wife work at a farm at Jyothigiri Estate in Kulakatteri. They had put their baby to sleep on a bed inside the room while they were working outside at the farm.

In the meantime, the wall fan in the room caught fire following a short circuit. The fan then melted and fell onto the bed where the baby was sleeping, setting it on fire. The parents noticed smoke coming from the house and rushed inside. They found the bed on fire and immediately took the baby to the Manjeri Government Medical College Hospital. However, the child could not be saved. Edavanna police have initiated further proceedings into theincident.
