KANNUR: The land acquisition project of the dream project to develop Kasargod-Thiruvananthapuram National Highway into six lanes has reached the final stage after overcoming the protests. Out of a total of ten thousand acres, only two thousand acres remain to be acquired. The state government has assured the National Highways Authority that the land will be handed over before March 31. The path will become a reality in four years.
The National Highway 66 from Thalappadi in Kasaragod to Kazhakoottam in Thiruvananthapuram will be 521.81 km wide with 45 m wide six lanes. Three lanes on each side and one service road each.
The National Highways Authority estimates the cost of road development at Rs 44,000 crore. The expense of the state government for land acquisition is Rs 21,000 crore. Land acquisition in Kannur and Kasaragod districts has been completed and compensation has been paid. The government pays between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 8 lakh per cent. Construction of the Kozhikode six-lane road will begin later this month.
