THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday said that those living in hilly areas and river banks should be extremely cautious. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rains in the state from tomorrow till Saturday (October 23). Since the main monsoon season is coming to an end, the risk of landslides, flash floods and river overflow is high. Extreme levels of rainfall over a short period of time can be dangerous.

The Disaster Management Authority has warned that people living in hilly areas and river banks should remain cautious till the current situation returns to normal. Studies conducted by expert teams from the GSI and the State Disaster Management Authority have found that several houses in the hilly and riverine areas are unhabitable. Authorities have been instructed to relocate people living in these houses to safer camps until the warning expires.
