THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Colleges may also shift to online study in the wake of the recent surge in Covid cases in the state. A review meeting to be chaired by the Chief Minister on Thursday will decide on further restrictions, including this. The Chief Minister will attend online from the United States.

According to experts, the presence of the Omicron variant has led to the recent surge in Covid cases in the state. Nearly 60% of those who got infected in the last week had received two doses of the vaccine. Authorities have initiated proceedings to procure PCR kits that can be used for Omicron testing. At present, about one-third of those getting tested in the state are infected with the virus. In Thiruvananthapuram, one out of two persons is being tested positive. Hence, authorities are likely to impose a night curfew and a Sunday lockdown.

Other measures being considered

  • Attendance at government offices is likely to be made 50 percent
  • Restriction in public transport system
  • Classes for classes 10 and 12 are likely to shift to online mode. Examinations will be conducted.
  • Regulation to be imposed in malls, theatres and public functions
