THRISSUR: A former District Industrial Development officer has been dismissed from service on Saturday for allegedly misappropriating Rs 19 lakh government funds. Bindu, 50,of Panikassery house from Ezhamkulam, Adoor served as industrial development officer in Thrissur and as Industrial extension officer at Vadakara Industrial Center.

Bindu was arrested a year and a half ago, on a case for transferring Rs 19 lakh to her own account while working as the liquidator of the Thrissur Town Women's Industrial Co-operative Society. Rs. 22.8 lakh received from a land dealing was deposited in the Ayyanthol State Bank branch in the name of the liquidator. This amount was often transferred to the personal accounts of Bindu and her husband. At the departmental level enquiry, it was found that only Rs 2.97 lakh was left in her account. A notice was then issued to Bindu and she was later suspended because of unsatisfactory explanation. Bindu's reinstatement into service through minister-level intervention was also controversial.

The court order to reinstate into the service was not obeyed.Only a show-cause was issued. Will file a contempt of court petition on Monday, said Bindhu.
