BENGALURU: A 20-year-old youth was brutally beaten up for allegedly chatting with a woman on social media. According to the police, the youth was held captive for about two days, thrashed and paraded naked around the village. The incident took place at Attikere village in Davangere district of Karnataka, last week.

Although the incident took place last week, it came to light only on Monday after several videos of the same went viral on several social media. The youth has been identified as Ganesh, a native of Attikere village. He had sent the message to a woman of the same village.

Ganesh was picked up from our house by the woman’s family members and some locals on Wednesday evening, said the youth’s mother Renuka in her complaint.

He was held captive in a marriage hall for two days and was brutally thrashed and paraded naked around the village, claimed the victim’s mother. “They did not listen to our pleas to let him go. I begged them not to do anything but they kept hitting him and taking videos. They took turns to attack him”, she added.

Ganesh is currently undergoing treatment in a government hospital in Davangere. “After going through the chats, it appeared as though the woman had approached him”, said the police. Several videos in connection with the incident have gone viral on social media. In one such video, the youth was made to parade naked. Investigation is on progress and two people have been arrested so far, said the police.
