THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Public Administration Department has started a move to redeploy the excess office assistants and computer assistants in the Secretariat to institutions outside the Secretariat. In the first phase, 208 office attendants will be transferred. The order will be issued shortly.

At present, there are 750 employees in the Secretariat in the posts of Computer Assistant, Confidential Assistant and Office Attendant. According to the Public Administration Department report, only 450 employees are enough in the Secretariat. It has been decided to transfer the remaining people to institutions, including boards and corporations. The transferred employees will be appointed to the same post in the offices in their respective districts. With the e-file system coming into force in the Secretariat, the services of employees belonging to these categories were found to be unnecessary. The post of confidential assistant will gradually disappear. The Administrative Reforms Commission and the Justice Ramachandran Nair Commission had given a report to the government that the excess staff should be redeployed.
