VARAPPUZHA: The Varappuzha police have arrested three people in connection with the incident in which a youth, who went abroad after being offered a job in Qatar, was arrested in a drug case there. The arrested persons have been identified as Aluva native Niyas, Kothamangalam native Shemeer and Kottayam native Ratheesh.
The police have started searching for the leader of the gang. The action is based on the complaint filed by the mother of Varappuzha native Yashwanth to District Police Chief Vivek Kumar. Yashwanth is in Qatar jail after being caught with drugs. The gang had sent Yashwanth to Qatar on July 7 saying that there are many job opportunities in Qatar in connection with the World Cup. They also told him that visa and ticket were free.
When Yashwanth reached Dubai, those associated with the gang met him and gave him a package containing drugs. On July 9, the drugs were seized from Yashwanth during an immigration check at Qatar Airport.
The culprits were arrested during the investigation conducted by a special team under the leadership of SP. Another candidate named Shamir from Edappally was also arrested in Qatar in a similar incident.
The police concluded that the accused are small links to a large drug mafia. Their duty is to arrange 'carriers' for a commission of 5000 to 10000. Police have intensified the investigation into the matter.
