KANNUR: A show cause notice has been issued for three policemen in additional SP P P Sadanandan’s office in connection with the incident in which some policemen were rented out for a luxury wedding in Kannur.
Four policemen were hired for a marriage function held on July 31 in Panoor. The policemen were hired for a total of Rs 5,600, with Rs 1,400 per person. The show cause notice has been issued to the section clerk, junior superintendent and a policemen at the office, after the incident turned controversial.
The order was issued without the knowledge of the additional superintendent of police. The notice has sought to explain the reason for issuing the order. According to the additional SP, the policemen were appointed for the wedding ceremony without his knowledge.
The Police Officers Association has also lodged a complaint with the chief minister and the DGP regarding the hiring of policemen. Even though the police provide services for a fee, hiring the officers for something like a lavish wedding is a shame, criticised the association. The policemen were hired for an expatriate businessman’s daughter’s marriage.
“They hired the policemen for getting a VIP image. Such people need not be VIPs. These days we often see allegations levelled against such people with VIP images, who are later put behind bars”, said C R Biju, Police Officers Association state general secretary.
