Wrong administration of chemotherapy: Case filed against doctors, lab

rajani

KOTTAYAM: Gandhi Nagar police have filed a case on the basis of a complaint given by Kudashanad native Rajani, who was given chemotherapy after she was wrongly diagnosed with cancer.

The case was filed on Saturday against two doctors of Kottayam Medical College and two labs.

The accused doctors are Dr Ranjin of Surgery department and Dr Suresh Kumar of Oncology department. The two labs, accused of giving erratic reports, are Dianova Laboratories and CMC scanning where mammogram was done.

The chemo treatment was administered at Kottayam Medical college after a lump on her breast was considered as cancerous. Rajani had sought treatment from the Medical College on February 28.

The samples collected from the patient was sent to Kottayam Medical Pathological lab as well as a private lab. The doctors started chemotherapy soon after they got a positive result from the private labs within a week’s time. The test result from Medical College pathological lab was received after the first chemotherapy. The result was found to be negative. Soon after realising the mistake, the samples from the private labs were taken back and tested at the pathological lab. The result again was negative.

Again the sample was sent to Thiruvananthapuram RCC for further confirmation. Rajani had to undergo the after-effects of the wrong treatment and as a result, she lost her hair and her skin blackened. She also started developing bodily discomfort.
Raijani reached the police station along with his father on Saturday and lodged the complaint. She will also give a complaint to the chief minister on Monday.
