THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: K Jayakumar, former Chief secretary, poet and the author of a handful of film songs that were loved by the Malayalis is turning 70. He was born on October 6, 1952 to director M Krishnan Nair and Sulochana Devi, and his 70th birthday is on the day after tomorrow. Karthika is his birth star. He has held the position of Vice-Chancellor of Malayalam University. He says that family and spirituality are his strengths.

On the occasion of his 70th birthday, the release of a book edited by poet Sebastian with the writings of 70 people about him and an exhibition of Jayakumar's pictures were to be organized at Bharat Bhavan by his friends. But the function has been postponed due to Kodiyeri Balakrishnan's demise.

Looking back on life, Jayakumar says that it was not a bad one. ‘Will continue as IMG director for a some time. After that, I will fulfill my dream of being a director. I have started script discussions with myself. It will not be a commercial film about a life situation that I am not familiar with. The movie will have a soul. The content will be the problems faced by a common man in dealing with the centres of power. I also want to pay more attention to painting.

I have no interest in telling a shocking service story. I want to write my views and life during the service. Have to share experiences about how our life will change if we get into IAS. I wrote about 500 songs including light music, album songs, devotional songs, theatre and movie songs. However, the song 'Chandanalepasugandham’ was much appreciated. But I don’t think that's my best song.
I consider poetry as a part of spiritual expression. I am writing for publishing my name. Let time erase all evidence that I was an IAS officer or Vice Chancellor. If history records the poet in me, then I have been true to my heart,’ says Jayakumar.
