MUMBAI: Malayali player Sanju Samson was selected as the International Cricket Council's player of the month for March. This is the first time Sanju has won the prestigious award from ICC. Sanju is also the first Malayali to win this award. In the women's category, New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr has won the best player award for March.
Sanju became the best ICC player in March after coming past Bumrah in the race. 'Winning the ICC Player of the Month is an incredible feeling, especially at such an unforgettable time in my cricketing career. Being able to be a part of India's victory in the T20 World Cup was a dream come true,' Sanju said about the award.
Sanju scored 321 runs at an average of 80.25 in the World Cup, including three half-centuries. His unbeaten 97 against West Indies in the Super 8s, 89 against England in the semi-finals and 89 against New Zealand in the final paved the way for India’s triumph in the tournament.
Sanju Samson was also adjudged the player of the tournament during this year’s T20 World Cup.
