Lionel Andrés Messi becomes World Cup’s all-time record goalscorer

DALLAS: Argentina is now leading against Austria in the Group J match thanks to Captain Lionel Messi's goal in the 38th minute. With this goal, Messi also set a record for being the player with the most goals in the World Cup. He surpassed Germany's Miroslav Klose's record (16). This is Messi’s fourth goal in this World Cup and 17th in all World Cups combined.

Messi missed a penalty early in the game against Austria. The penalty was awarded in the fourth minute of the match after Lautaro Martinez was brought down inside the box by Austrian defenders. Although the foul was not initially called, the penalty was later awarded on a review. However, the Argentine captain who took the kick curved it outside the left side, wide of the post.

In the 31st minute, the ball from the left wing was excellently left to Messi in a clinically set dummy, leading the little magician to glide it to the bottom corner, leaving Austrian goalkeeper Alexander Schlager no chance.
