PORT AU PRINCE: As the Caribbean nation of Haiti returns to the FIFA World Cup after 52 years, Malayali football fans have something to cheer about. Haiti’s 26-member squad, announced on Sunday, includes a former Kerala Blasters star, striker Duckens Moïse Nazon.
Nazon, who currently plays for Iranian club Istiqlal, played for the Blasters in the 2016-17 season. The yellow-army player scored two goals in seven matches. Nazon, who joined the Blasters from French club Laval in September 2016, moved to English club Wolverhampton in January 2017. Nazon, who has been playing for the Haiti national team since 2014, is one of their most experienced players. He has played 80 matches for Haiti and has scored 44 goals.
Haiti is qualifying for the World Cup for the first time since 1974. Haiti is competing in Group C, which includes former world champions Brazil, Morocco, and Scotland. The first match is against Scotland on June 14.
