Heavy rains to continue today, strong winds likely: Orange alert in seven districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rain warnings will continue in various districts in the state today. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that there is a possibility of strong winds and thunderstorms along with rain. An orange alert has been issued in Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod today. The alert has been issued because there is a possibility of heavy rains and strong winds in isolated places in these districts.


A yellow alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam. The Disaster Management Authority has informed that precautions should be taken as heavy rains in isolated places are likely to cause flash floods. The IMD has also advised that extreme caution should be exercised as winds are likely to blow at a speed of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour.
