A lot of visuals of celebrations are now amassing over a million views on social media. Amidst this assortment of videos, little did people notice how a New Zealand player ended up in tears while hearing the Indian national anthem.
The Indian and New Zealand teams were standing for the national anthem at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad when Ish Sodhi was spotted on camera having a tough time controlling his tears.
Ish Sodhi is the best spin bowler in the New Zealand team. The 33-year-old Ish was born in Ludhiana, Punjab, and migrated to Papatoetoe, New Zealand, with his family at the age of four. He made his international debut in a Test match against Bangladesh in 2013.
Sodhi made his Twenty20 International debut against the West Indies in July 2014. He played his first ODI for New Zealand against Zimbabwe in August 2015. In 2018, he rose to number one in the ICC T20I bowlers' rankings. He was also a member of the New Zealand team that finished runners-up in the 2019 Cricket World Cup. Sodhi also holds the record for being the New Zealand bowler who took the most T20I wickets against India. He has taken 30 wickets in 25 matches at an average of 23.80.
