NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday stated that India is rapidly transitioning from a consumer of technology into a global provider. Speaking at the 'Bharat Innovates 2026' exhibition in Nice, France, the Prime Minister emphasised India's growing footprint in the global tech ecosystem. The high-profile event was jointly inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron.
Addressing the gathering, Modi highlighted India’s historical legacy of self-renewal and global leadership. He reiterated that the nation's technological pursuits are deeply rooted in human-centric development.
"India's ultimate objective is to build technology for the welfare of mankind," the Prime Minister said, noting that this philosophy forms the core of the country's digital revolution and artificial intelligence (AI) vision. He added that India has decisively emerged as a global hub for problem-solving, backed by a robust ecosystem of over 200,000 startups that are actively driving both domestic and global economic growth.
Turning to bilateral ties, Modi underscored the strategic weight of the India-France partnership in addressing complex global challenges. He specifically pointed to successful joint ventures like the International Solar Alliance (ISA), while calling for deeper bilateral cooperation in cutting-edge fields such as AI and security architecture in the Indo-Pacific region.
On the sidelines of the exhibition—which serves as a major convergence point for Indian deep-tech startups, researchers, and global investors—the Prime Minister interacted closely with innovators across several critical sectors. These included quantum computing, semiconductors, biotechnology, defence, aerospace, healthcare, med-tech, advanced materials, and clean energy.
