MUMBAI: Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings are preparing for a major player exchange ahead of the next Indian Premier League season. The move involves Mumbai Indians trading their captain, Hardik Pandya, to Punjab Kings in exchange for Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh and wicketkeeper-batter Vishnu Vinod. This could potentially become one of the biggest player trades in the history of IPL.
According to a report by Sportstar, the management of both teams have reportedly reached an agreement regarding a player exchange. The deadline for retaining players is November 17, and an official announcement is expected before this date. Mumbai is set to acquire Arshdeep—one of the highest wicket-takers for the Indian T20 team—in exchange for Hardik.
In addition to Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians also held discussions regarding player trades with Kolkata Knight Riders. Reports suggest that they explored trade possibilities with more than three teams. Among these, the discussions with Kolkata—aside from those with Punjab—progressed well. Kolkata had been considering a trade deal involving multiple players to acquire Hardik.
If Arshdeep decides to leave, Punjab will bring another left-arm pacer as a replacement. Reports suggest that Punjab is interested in acquiring Mohsin Khan from the Lucknow Super Giants. Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh are key players for India in T20 cricket. Hardik is an all-rounder capable of contributing effectively with both the bat and the ball, while Arshdeep is a pacer who has proven his excellence during death overs.
